A Moonlit Night, Windows Series

It’s a moonlit night. The window is open. The moon is full. The curtain lifts on a warm night breeze.

A Moonlit Night places a young woman at an open window in the quiet hours, her gaze lifted toward a full moon hanging low in a star-scattered sky. Sheer curtains billow softly beside her, and on the sill an amethyst cluster and a rose quartz tower catch the moonlight.

A painting about stillness, intention, and the particular peace of being exactly where you’re meant to be.

ARTIST’S PROCESS:

A Moonlit Night was painted in Procreate on a 13″ iPad Pro using the Apple Pencil Pro. Like its companions in the Windows series, this piece was developed using a Mood Board establishing the day-to-night arc across all three panels, ensuring this piece’s nocturnal light palette would sit naturally between the overcast tones of A Rainy Afternoon and the golden hour palette of A Summer Evening.

The piece was built in layered passes, establishing the figure first before developing the night sky, moonlight, and windowsill props. The primary light source — the full moon — required consistent cool blue-grey tones across the exterior while preserving warm interior light on the figure’s skin, creating a natural hierarchy between inside and outside.

CHALLENGE:

Sheer curtains in motion present a layered technical challenge — the fabric must read as lightweight and translucent while also conveying movement and volume. Each fold and billow needed soft, graduated edges to suggest airiness, while the moonlight filtering through the fabric required careful handling of semi-transparent tone without losing the sense of the night beyond. Too opaque and the curtain loses its sheerness; too thin and it loses its physical presence. Achieving the balance between weight, movement, and translucency required sustained attention to edge quality and light behavior across multiple layers.
