Childhood Summer Days captures that particular kind of freedom — running without a destination, discovering the world at the height of the grass.

ARTIST’S PROCESS: Childhood Summer Days was painted in Procreate on a 13″ iPad Pro using the Apple Pencil Pro. The work builds depth and texture through layered digital brushwork — structural drawing, color blocking, value refinement, and detail work for substance and believability. Multiple layers and select brushes were used to render the fine, wind-blown texture of the tall grass.

CHALLENGE: Rendering dozens of individual blades of tall grass — each with its own lean, highlight, and shadow — without the field reading as flat or repetitive was the primary challenge. Layering varied brush textures and shifting value subtly blade to blade gave the grass a sense of depth and movement, so it reads as a living field rather than a painted backdrop.
