Tea is a cherished tradition in my family. My sisters and I gather around our kitchen tables, sharing stories and laughter over cups of tea. This still-life captures our love for tea and its role in our gatherings. It features a teal tea canister with a relief flower design, and a wooden lid with a metal flower handle, a wheel-thrown teapot, a silver filigree teaball, a wooden spoon with dried tea leaves, and a pastel woven table runner with a pile of dried tea and fresh mint leaves. This is the comfort of tea.
Artist’s Process:
Created entirely in Procreate on a 13” iPad Pro M5 with an Apple Pencil Pro, this work replicates traditional painting’s depth and texture through layered digital brushwork. Each artwork starts with structural drawing, followed by color blocking, value refinement, and detail work on the silver filigree teaball, woven table runner, dried tea leaves, and the glaze on the canister and teapot. Multiple Procreate layers and select brushes create the surface of each unique element.
Challenge: To create the intricate silver filigree teaball and chain, an extremely thin brush was needed to work the pattern with the holes for the hot water to pass through the tea leaves inside.
