Bloom Series.
The Bloom Series brings together six botanical paintings, each capturing a different flower in vivid detail. The Stargazer Lily rises on a slender stalk above elongated green leaves, its five pointed petals unfurling dramatically. The Columbine’s five vibrant petal-like structures frame the bloom, often contrasting with its central color. The Pink Carnation gathers ruffled petals into a tight, fragrant cluster, while the red Rose Bud offers the timeless romance of its classic form. The Balloon Flower, also known as the Chinese Bellflower, begins as a small air-filled pod before unfurling five delicate petals at maturity. Rounding out the collection, the Coreopsis bloom displays ragged, multi-colored petals atop tall stalks that sway gracefully across the summer garden. Together, these six paintings bring the beauty of the garden into the home, each striking individually yet cohesive as a set.

ARTIST’S PROCESS:
Bloom Series was painted in Procreate on a 13″ iPad Pro using the Apple Pencil Pro. Each of the six paintings uses layered digital brushwork to achieve the depth and texture of traditional painting. A precise structural drawing was created for every flower, leaf, and stem, capturing its unique attributes. Color blocking established each flower’s structure, followed by multiple rounds of detail work and value refinement across textures, colors, lighting, and characteristics. Final layers perfected the shadows and highlights, with brushes scaled to each subject and its light source.
CHALLENGE:
In order to unify the series of six flower varieties, a watercolor texture background was selected. A neutral grey color with a watercolor texture overlay was chosen to harmonize the flowers across all the varieties. Utilizing a Procreate brush configured to create a sweeping motion of small dots, a wash of medium grey and soft ivory was applied across the canvas from top left to bottom right behind each bloom. This background choice effectively grounded the series while allowing the distinct personality of each individual flower to be the focal point of each piece.
