Young Boy Portrait, Daydreaming.
A young boy portrait, Daydreaming, captures a moment of profound introspection. His chin rests on his hand, eyes lifted, lost in a world beyond the confines of the room. This imaginative realm is entirely his own—quiet, private, and utterly captivating. This portrait draws inspiration from the wonder of children and their boundless capacity to harness their imaginations to transport themselves to any visualized destination. While everyone indulges in daydreaming at some point, a child’s daydreaming process cultivates a questioning mind that will serve them well throughout their lives. Hopefully, anyone, regardless of age, who gazes upon this boy’s contemplative expression will be inspired to embrace a bit of daydreaming.

Artist’s Process:
Daydreaming was painted in Procreate on a 13″ iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil Pro, through layered digital brushwork across skin, fabric, and fine detail. A child’s proportions and skin require a distinct technique — softer transitions and rounder highlight placement. His brown eyes were rendered with full iris color and a prominent catchlight. The neutral, textured background represents stillness and quiet activity together, keeping the subject’s daydreaming as the sole focus.
Challenge:
The greatest challenge was the upward gaze — large, wide eyes looking up can easily read as startled or blank rather than dreamy. Careful control of the eyelid line and iris placement was needed to keep the expression soft and inward-looking, capturing genuine wonder rather than surprise.
