Utilizing Procreate on a 13-inch iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil Pro, this portrait commenced with meticulous structural sketching to ascertain the head’s proportions and three-quarter angle. Color blocking was applied to the warm liver tones and cool background, followed by progressive value refinement to create the coat’s depth. The German Wirehaired Pointer’s distinctive wire-textured coat necessitated individual strand layering across the muzzle and brow—each hair meticulously placed to conform to the breed’s unique growth pattern. The white blaze and ticking were painted last, preserving their brightness as focal counterpoints to the dark, rich coat. The amber eyes were the final and most deliberate detail: glazed in warm gold to achieve their characteristic luminosity.
CHALLENGE:
The German Wirehaired Pointer’s coat is renowned for its intricate and technically demanding nature in dog portraiture.
