Years of shared life settle into a face differently than anything else — a particular ease, a warmth that doesn’t need to announce itself. Cheek to cheek, their silver hair almost indistinguishable from each other’s, this couple has simply become part of the same story. A portrait like this captures not just two people but the years between them. Bring your photo — this is what time and love look like, painted.
Artist’s Process:
Created entirely in Procreate on a 13″ iPad Pro M5 with an Apple Pencil Pro, through layered digital brushwork across skin, hair, fabric, and fine detail. Both subjects carry full silver hair in distinctly different textures — sculpted waves versus tighter curls — each requiring separate rendering passes. The tortoiseshell glasses are the most detailed eyeglass work in this series, with frame pattern and lens suggestion built across multiple layers. The green velvet top adds warm color contrast, and a background vignette draws the eye naturally inward to the faces.
Challenge: Two distinctly different silver hair textures in the same piece — the woman’s sculpted blue-white waves and the man’s tighter darker grey curls required completely separate rendering approaches, with different highlight temperatures and stroke techniques to read as the same color family but different hair types.
