ARTIST’S PROCESS:

Pet Portrait Ragdoll Cat was painted in Procreate on a 13″ iPad Pro using the Apple Pencil Pro, beginning with careful structural drawing to establish form beneath the fur. Color blocking established value relationships early; subsequent layers refined fur direction, coat pattern, and the interplay of warm shadow and cool highlight across the white sections. Background color was chosen deliberately to complement — not compete with — the subject’s distinctive eye color and coat tones.

CHALLENGE:

White fur is deceptively complex: it is never simply white. The challenge here is rendering volume and three-dimensionality across a predominantly light coat without flattening the form. The solution was layered — warm shadow tones were established on lower layers first, with lighter fur strokes built progressively on top, and selective bright highlights applied last only where light would naturally peak on the curves of the form.
