Mistweave Music Album Mug Set Labels — Musician Michael O’Shea.

Mistweave Music Album Mug Set Labels was commissioned by the musician to incorporate each of his four music album covers into custom designed labels by Shadowmyst Art to be printed on a set of mugs. Each label is uniquely designed to wrap around the mug with the album cover art showing on both sides of the mug with the Production Label logo placed between the two images. The set of four represent the Albums “Turning Point”, “Journey”  “These Moments”, “Undercovers” and “Mistweave Musician Michael O’Shea in Concert. The last image is the planned cover art for the upcoming fourth album and was painted by Shadowmyst Art in Procreate. See the original portrait in the Portraits Gallery.

Artist’s Process:

Mistweave Music Album Mug Set Labels were painted in Procreate on a 13″ iPad Pro using the Apple Pencil Pro. The central theme of this artwork was to seamlessly integrate the musician’s cover art from his music albums, which was provided by the musician, into custom-sized labels tailored to the predetermined mug dimensions for printing. Once the album cover art images were prepared, the choice of a neutral grey background with a subtle grain was chosen for all four mugs selected to ensure visual continuity within the set while simultaneously considering the visibility of the Producer’s logos, which would be incorporated between the double image. The Producer’s logos were carefully hand-copied from the original images provided onto the label design. The final step involved merging the layers to create a final print copy for each label.

Challenge:

The most significant challenge in this artwork was preparing the provided music album cover art, reduced to the size of the custom mug label, while preserving the images, clarity, and color of the original image. The initial step was to select the best version of the original album cover art that the client could provide. The image was then reduced in Procreate to the required size for the label and enhanced as necessary using the Procreate Sharpen tool, a Procreate Fine Tip brush, and color adjustments with the Procreate “Hue, Saturation, Brightness” and “Curves” tools under the Adjustments menu.

Following this preparation on one layer, a duplicate layer was created and adjusted to position the duplicate album cover on the opposite side of the label, leaving ample space for the Producer’s logo placement between the two images.
