A storm approaches, announced by darkening clouds in the distance. Sunlight fades, partially blocked by the storm. A woman stretches on a bench in the remaining sunlight, eyes closed, face turned to the warmth. She savors the tranquil space before the storm arrives.

Artist’s Process:

Created entirely in Procreate on a 13” iPad Pro M5 with an Apple Pencil Pro, this work replicates traditional painting’s depth and texture through layered digital brushwork. Each artwork starts with a structural drawing, followed by color blocking, value refinement, and detailed texture work on hair, sweater, skin, clouds, and foliage. The wood grain of the bench planks is a prominent element requiring detailed attention. Multiple Procreate layers and select brushes create the emotional impact of this work.

Challenge: A knit sweater with a striped pattern and folds that lay over her figure and press against the bench’s wood under her arm. Layers and Procreate tools like “Liquify” were used to finish the sweater pattern and the flow of the knit material.
