Summer is over, autumn nearly gone, and the first snow has arrived. Hat on, sweater pulled close, she faces it directly — steady, clear-eyed, already making her peace with the months ahead. Winter isn’t something to endure. It’s something to meet. This portrait captures exactly that quiet resolve.

Artist’s Process:

Created entirely in Procreate on a 13” iPad Pro M5 with an Apple Pencil Pro, through layered digital brushwork across skin, textile, and atmospheric detail. The direct frontal gaze was deliberate — she meets the viewer fully, creating unusual intimacy and quiet intensity. Scattered snow elements add atmospheric depth to the heavy winter background. The dark, weighted palette reflects the season she faces with steady composure.

Challenge: The cable knit sweater — a custom chain-stitch brush was used to paint the knit pattern following the direction and curves of the fabric as it falls over the subject’s arms and hands. Light and dark value washes were then layered over the pattern to build the folds, volume, and cuff detail. The bucket hat presented a secondary challenge — its quilted, slightly reflective surface required separate highlight treatment to read as a different textile from the sweater.
